CPR, AED & FIRST AID CERTIFICATION
All Brit-Am Soccer Academy coaches are Certified by the American Safety & Health Institute in CPPR, AED & First Aid for adults and children.
Steve has been coaching in the Maryland, D.C. and Virginia area for twenty years and Steve holds an English Football Association B-License and USSF A – License.
Steve’s playing career began in England at 16 as a trainee with Oldham Athletic where he got to play against the likes of David Beckham and Paul Scholes. He also had short spells at Wigan Athletic and Blackpool before moving to Hong Kong where he played in their professional first division. Here in the United States, Steve was a member of the professional Maryland Mania team in 1999 and trained with DC United for 6 months in 1998 where he was coached by Ex US National Mens Team Coaches Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley.
With this experience Steve & his staff will be able to provide an excellent experience in which they will share their knowledge with your child!
Coach Gus is our Brit-Am Soccer All-Star Academy Director, and he has been with Brit-Am Soccer for five years. He is fully committed to player development and teaching young players the necessary skills required to participate at the highest levels. As a player, Gus started his passion for soccer in Peru at the Academia Deportivo Cantoalo, then moved to Club Deportivo Municipal and finally into the Alianza Lima player Academy. Coach Gus currently holds a USSF National Youth License, National “C” License, FA Psychology for Soccer, FA Player and Match Analysis, FA Fitness in Football, and FA Planning, Preparing, and Evaluating Coaching Sessions.
Kirsten grew up in Germantown, MD. She played locally with Damascus Soccer Club and went to St. John’s College High School in Washington, DC. While at St. John’s the four-year varsity goalkeeper won two conference championships and attained All-Conference and First Team All-Met accolades.
After high school, she played Division I college soccer for three years at UNC-Greensboro before finishing out her career at George Mason University where she was a starter and a captain. Coach Kirsten is a goalkeeper coach with Potomac Soccer Association and the Brit-Am All-Stars teams. She enjoys sharing her love of soccer with others and is currently coaching in the Tots, After-School, K-1st, team trainings and goalkeeper programs. Coach Kirsten is working towards her coaching and goalkeeper licenses.
Coach Blaine has been a personal trainer for 7 years and he is NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) Certified and is a NASM CES (National Academy of Sports Medicine Corrective Exercise Specialist), Coach Blaine also has an additional focus as a NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist. Blaine was a Division I cross country runner at Virginia Tech and was also a member of the crew team while there. Blaine’s main focus is in endurance as well as speed and agility training, and has backgrounds in rehabilitation and sports injury work.
Coach Jonah Schuman joined Brit-Am Soccer Academy in 2009 and has been coaching since 2001.
Jonah has a USSF A-Youth License and a United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Goalkeeping Diploma. He has extensive experience working with ages 2-8 and has also coached at the travel, high school, college and semi-pro levels.
He worked for DC Stoddert Soccer Club’s travel program from 2009-2018, serving as the club’s goalkeeper coach and coaching in both the academy (U9-U12) and U13-19 age groups. He is now with Potomac Soccer Club, where he coaches U9, U10 and U15 travel teams.
He has previously coached with MSI in both the Recreational and Classic programs, Howard Community College,the Maryland and Virginia Olympic Development programs and St. John’s College High School in Washington DC.
In addition to directing Brit-Am’s 2-8 year-old programs, Jonah is also director of Brit-Am Goalkeeper School.
Coach Albert is a local coach and player from Gaithersburg. He is currently the assistant coach of the boys U13 Brit-Am Allstars and a goalkeeper coach for Brit Am. He played for 4 years at Watkins Mill High School as the Varsity goalkeeper and was part of the 2011 state championship team. Albert was All State honorable mention, and also All Met honorable mention in 2014. Albert is currently attending Montgomery college and loves coaching kids and teaching them new techniques. Albert currently holds a USSF F-License working on his USSF E-License.
Coach Tom is the current Brit-Am All-Stars U9 Boys Head Coach (Tottenham), and coaches for Potomac Soccer Association. He is the current head coach of the Saint John’s Catholic Prep Varisty Boys Soccer team in Frederick and has assisted the Hood College Men’s Soccer program.
Some of his playing experience included the college level, where he was a four-year starter, and two-year captain for the Hood College Men’s Soccer program. He finished his career with 30 goals and 19 assists, for 79 career points. He earned All-Region South in 2006. He was inducted into the Hood College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015. He also played four years and served as a captain for his varsity team at Saint Anthony’s HS (Long Island, NY) Tom is a graduate of Hood Collegewith a bachelors degree in marketing, and an MBA in finance. He currently holds a USSF E license.
Coach Mackie came to Brit-Am in 2017 after an extensive playing career both in the United States and in the US Virgin Islands where he played on the USVI Senior and Youth National Teams. He has also played professionally in Malta with the PSC Soccer Academy. Mackie played collegiality at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. In 2010-2011 he won the team’s Most Valuable Player award. Mackie has coached players age 10-15 in the USVI and with Brit-Am’s tots and all-star academy program.
Jill was a professional female player for 16 years in Japan, Sweden, Italy (2-time Italian champs), Germany and Switzerland She was also a U.S. National Team player. Jill holds the UUSSF B license and currently coaches the Girls U12 Olney Freedom in WAGS and the U17 Girls ODP team.
Coach Omid was born in Tehran, Iran and has played soccer for over 30 years. Omid played professionally for two years another four playing indoor. Omid has been coaching Since 2014 and currently holds the USSF D License. Omid joined Brit-Am staff in 2016 and had quickly become one of the most popular coaches in our Tots program. He also serves as a team trainer for Brit-Am and an assistant coach in our MSI Classic All-Star Academy.
Coach Patrick “Pato” grew up playing locally at Watkins Mill High School. Coach Patrick was named Montgomery County player of the year by the Gazette in 2011. He went on to play at UMBC and played professionally for the ASA Charge and the Philadelphia Fury in the ASL. Coach Patrick has coached travel soccer at both Montgomery Soccer Club and Takoma Soccer Club.
Coach Patrick coaches with Brit-Am’s Tots program, skills clinics, and MSI Classic All-Star Academy.
Elly has been coaching with Brit-Am for several seasons in the Tots, After-School and K-1st Programs. She played locally for DC Stoddert and at Albert Einstein High School where she was captain of the varsity team. In her career, she has played both forward and defense. Elly is currently studying for a business degree. In addition to her coaching, Elly has worked with children as a camp counselor, Best Buddies partner, nanny and as camp coordinator. Elly is currently working toward her USSF E-license.
Hayley is from Germantown, MD. She has been playing soccer for since 2001, and played for several area WAGS and MSI teams as a goalkeeper and midfielder. Hayley also played at her high school, Watkins Mill, where she was a four-year varsity starter and was captain her junior and senior years. She now plays on the University of Maryland club team. Hayley loves sharing her wisdom of soccer by coaching children and is a Brit-Am tots coach. Hayley is currently working towards her E-Coaching license to further her knowledge and coaching skills.
Coach Nate grew up in Vermont where he played for the State ODP Team. He played college soccer at Duquesne University from 2009 to 2013. He has been coaching since 2014. Before moving to the DC Area, Coach Nate coached U9, U10 and U15 Boys at Century United Soccer Club in Western Pennsylvania. He was also the varsity soccer coach at Penn Hills High School.
He currently holds his US Soccer Federation E License.
Coach Sasha comes to Brit-Am with years of playing experience. He grew up in Rockville, playing for Potomac Soccer club and Magruder High School. In 2013 he played with Spartak Smalyavichy a team from Belarus, in the Fragaria Cup tournament in Presov, Slovakia. Coach Sasha also has experience as an assistant coach with Alianza Lima youth summer soccer programs. He now studies at the University of Maryland and plays for the Maryland Men’s Club Soccer team. Coach Sasha currently coaches with Brit-Am’s Tot’s program.
Carli is from Bethesda, MD, and is currently a freshman at The University of Vermont studying Business Administration. She plays club soccer at UVM and made it to the national tournament in Foley, Alabama this year. Carli has been coaching soccer for Brit-Am for 3 years. She currently holds a USSF F License and is scheduled to get her E license in 2017.
Edwin has been playing soccer since the age of 6 in area leagues including MSI classic and NCSL travel teams and for Northwood High School. Edwin went on to join Frederick Community College as a Goalkeeper. He holds a USSF-F license and is working on getting his E license. Edwin is studying criminal justice in college and hopes to continue a career sharing his love of the game while coaching children.
Coach Eric grew up playing soccer in Washington, DC. As a youth player, he played for the Potomac Soccer Club, Bethesda Soccer Club and DC United. He moved to Florida in 9th grade to play with the U-17 US Men’s National Team. As a junior in high school, he moved to England for a year to play with professional club Reading FC. During his final year of high school, Coach Eric trained with SC Freiburg, VFL Bochum, and Eintracht Frankfurt – all professional clubs in Germany. He is currently playing forward for the University of Maryland Men’s Soccer team, where he won the 2018 NCAA National Championship. Eric is pursuing his bachelors in international relations while at Maryland.
Coach Eric has coached at a variety of soccer camps in DC, Maryland and Virginia. He works with Brit-Am’s Tots, summer camps, All-Star Academy and PDL programs.
Coach Fabrice comes to Brit-Am from Potomac Soccer Club’s U10 boys program in 2016 and 2017. Prior to his time at Potomac, Fabrice was working with players ranging rom 6-12 years old in Rockville as well as running individual training sessions with high school and collegiate players.
Fabrice was born in Cameroon and grew up playing for Bamenda FC. After moving to the US, Fabrice played for Damascus, Pachuca, Real Maryland and Bethesda. He went on to play at Montgomery College where he captained the team to
the two national championship tournaments. During his time at MC, he was named to the Maryland All Juco Team in 2014 as well as the All-Region team. He also received Montgomery College’s Male Athlete of the year award for the 2014-15 school year.
Fabrice graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.A. in taxation and accounting and is now a practicing CPA. Fabrice holds a USSF E License and would like to obtain his D License in the near future.
