Steve Knapman : President

Steve Knapman

President

Steve has been coaching in the Maryland, D.C. and Virginia area for eightteen years and is currently the Head Coach for the MD Boys ODP U12 squad. Steve holds an English Football Association B-License and USSF A – License. Steve’s playing career began in England at 16 as a trainee with Oldham Athletic where he got to play against the likes of David Beckham and Paul Scholes. He also had short spells at Wigan Athletic and Blackpool before moving to Hong Kong where he played in their professional first division. Here in the United States, Steve was a member of the professional Maryland Mania team in 1999 and trained with DC United for 6 months in 1998 where he was coached by Ex US National Mens Team Coaches Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley.

Program Coordinator

Coach Gus is our Brit-Am Team Program Coordinator and he has been with Brit-Am Soccer for 3 years. He is fully committed to player development and teaching young players the necessary skills required to participate at the highest levels. As a player Gus started his passion for soccer in Peru at the Academia Deportivo Cantoalo, then moved to Club Deportivo Municipal and finally into the Alianza Lima player Academy. Gus currently holds a USSF National Youth License, National “C” License, FA Psychology for Soccer, FA Player and Match Analysis, FA Fitness in Football, and FA Planning, Preparing, and Evaluating Coaching Sessions.

Jonah Schuman : Director of Youth Programs

Jonah Schuman

Director of Youth Programs

Coach Jonah Schuman joined Brit-Am Soccer Academy in 2009 and has been coaching in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area for over 15 years. Jonah currently has a USSF B License. He has extensive experience working with ages 2-8 and has also coached at the travel, high school, college and semi-pro levels. He has worked for DC Stoddert Soccer Club since 2009, serving as the club's goalkeeper coach and coaching in both the academy (U9-U12) and  U13-19 age groups. In addition, he serves as goalkeeper coach for Howard Community College the Maryland Olympic Development Program. He has previously worked with MSI in both the Recreational and Classic programs as well as the Virginia Olympic Development programs and St. John's College High School in Washington DC. In addition to directing Brit-Am's 2-8 year-old programs, Jonah is also director of Brit-Am Goalkeeper School.

Coach Blaine : Personal Trainer

Coach Blaine

Personal Trainer

Blaine has been a personal trainer for 7 years and he is NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) Certified and is a NASM CES (National Academy of Sports Medicine Corrective Exercise Specialist), Coach Blaine also has an additional focus as a NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist. Blaine was a Division I cross country runner at Virginia Tech and was also a member of the crew team while there. Blaine’s main focus is in endurance as well as speed and agility training, and has backgrounds in rehabilitation and sports injury work.

Coach Brian “Wilber” :

Brian (Wilber) has been coaching with Brit-Am Soccer for more than three years. He is the Brit-Am All Star Academy Goalkeeping Coach, working with up to 16 teams a season and coaching in the Brit-Am Tots Program and Kindergarten and 1st grade programs. He played locally for Watkins Mill High School and as the starting goalkeeper for Montgomery College where he was named All-Region XX (20) First Team and All Maryland Junior College Second Team. He is an assistant coach and Goalkeeper Coach for the Watkins Mill. Brian hold the USSF D License.

Matias Salina : Director of Camps

Matias Salina

Director of Camps

Matias Salina was born in Buenos Aires Argentina. He has been coaching soccer for almost 7 years and has loved coaching the different aged kids. Matias is currently coaching the Brit-Am Allstars U11 & U U12 boys teams. Matias also recently played for two years at Montgomery College. In 2010 Matias earned his NSCAA Level 1 & 2 Diplomas and also the USSF – D coaching license. Matias loves teaching kids soccer, especially when they learn the skills, and he see’s them progress each and every time they step onto the pitch.

Dave Steele :

Dave Steele

Dave Steele is originally from England and he played in the Academy teams for  Aston Villa and Bury F.C. He started coaching at the early age of 15 and over the past 8 years, he has taught multiple teams including the New York U16 State and Division champions from Long Island. Dave holds a UEFA B license badge.

Coach Jill :

Coach Jill

Jill was a professional female player for 16 years in Japan, Sweden, Italy (2-time Italian champs), Germany and Switzerland She was also a U.S. National Team player. Jill holds  the UUSSF B license and currently coaches the Girls U12 Olney Freedom in WAGS and the U17 Girls ODP team.

Coach Stephen H. :

Stephen has coached with Brit-Am for several years during summer camps, winter training and in the Tots program. Stephen played locally for Winston Churchill HS and was selected as a Second Team All-Gazette performer for Montgomery County. He captained his MSC Club Team and played for the Potomac  Academy in the US Soccer Development Academy League. He went on to play at St. Mary’s College and then American University for three years and was selected for the All-Patriot League Third Team. Stephen currently coaches in the Potomac Soccer Club and is an elementary school teacher in Montgomery County Public Schools.

Coach Jose “Toti” :

Coach Jose “Toti”

Jose (Toti) has been coaching with Brit-Am Soccer for three years. Toti coaches children in the Brit-Am Tots and After School programs and the Brit-Am All Stars Xeneizes and All Star Leicester teams that play in the MSI Classic League. Toti helped develop the Brit-Am indoor SoccerFit program which is offered in schools throughout Montgomery County. He has worked as a soccer and fitness coach for a number of years. Locally, Toti played for Wheaton High School and in Argentina he played on the professional Club Athletico Chacarita for 2009-10. He also trained with Boca Juniors. Toti holds the USSF National Youth E License.

Coach John :

Coach John

John has coached with Brit-Am Soccer for four years in the Brit-Am Soccer Tots Program as a coach and administrator and as an All Star Academy coach. Prior to his work with Brit-Am, John coached in England working closely with children with special needs. John holds an F.A. Level I Coaching Certificate from the UK and is working on US soccer certifications.  He coaches the Brit-Am All Stars Chelsea and the Brit-Am All Stars Spirit. John is a native of Oxford, England.

Coach David H. :

Coach David H.

David is originally from Scotland and played professionally with Falkirk football club. He studied sports coaching and development at Edinburgh Telford college and has coached extensively including MLS soccer camps as a personal development officer and with U.K. International soccer camps as a director of coaching. David has the US Soccer E coaching license and the Scottish FA level 1 & 2 licenses. Before moving to Washington, DC, David was the Head coach for U14 thru to U18 boys at North United Soccer Club, Head coach for U12 thru to U14 Boys at Kiski Area Soccer Club, worked as assistant boys coach at Franklin Regional H.S. and assistant girls coach at Highlands Area H.S all in Pittsburgh, PA.

Coach Michael :

Coach Michael

Coach Michael has over twenty-five years experience playing and coaching soccer. Michael spent five years playing in Europe. After returning to Maryland, Michael played at Northwestern high school and Montgomery College earning All-Conference and All-Region honors. He has been with Brit-Am since 2015.

Michael has been coaching at a number of area schools and clubs including Georgetown Day, Sidwell Friends, Magruder, D.C Stoddert, MSC, Montgomery College and Chesapeake College. Earning a state title as an assistant at Magruder, and Coach of the year at Chesapeake. He is currently coaching the boys and girls at Norwood School, and two MSI Classic teams. Michael holds a USSF D-License.

Coach Elise :

Coach Elise

Elise grew up in the Washington Metro area. She has been coaching soccer for over fifteen years. She played as a goalkeeper for Brown University, earning Academic All-Ivy Honors. She has coached NCAA Division one goalkeepers and for the Rhode Island State Olympic Development program. Elise is currently working on her US Soccer Coaching licenses and her NSCAA coaching diplomas. Elise coaches with Brit-Am's tots, afterschool and K-1st programs and serves as a team trainer as well.

Coach Alex S. :

Coach Alex S.

Coach Alex has played soccer since the age of 4. He played striker for the Baltimore Bays as a teenager and transitioned to play for the Mens U-19 National team in Peru. He now attends Montgomery College where he will be pursuing his degree in Physical therapy. Alex currently holds a USSF F-License.

Coach Omid :

Coach Omid

Coach Omid was born in Tehran, Iran and has played soccer for over 30 years including 2 years professional league and 4 years indoor soccer.  Omid has been coaching for 2 years and currently holds the USSF F License and D License. Omid joined Brit-Am staff in 2016 and coaches in the tots program.

Coach Elly F. :

Coach Elly F.

Elly has been coaching with Brit-Am for several seasons in the Tots, After-School and K-1st Programs. She played locally for DC Stoddert and at Albert Einstein High School where she was captain of the varsity team. In her career, she has played both forward and defense. Elly is currently studying for a business degree. In addition to her coaching, Elly has worked with children  as a camp counselor, Best Buddies partner, nanny and as camp coordinator.  Elly is currently working toward her USSF E-license.

Coach Inty :

Coach Inty

Originally from Ecuador, Inty played in the Academy teams for Club Deportivo Espoli in Quito and was part of the 2004 State Champion team at Montgomery College-Rockville. In addition, Inty played for Marymount University for 2 seasons and internationally with Imperial College in London, England in 2008.
Inty has worked as coach in the Northern VA and DC area for 5 years with players aged 4 to 19 years competing in WAGS, NCSL, and ODSL Leagues. Inty holds a USSF National D License, Adult-Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate from the Red Cross, and he is also a registered USSF Referee, Grade 8.
Coach Albert :

Coach Albert

Coach Albert is a local coach and player from Gaithersburg. He is currently the assistant coach of the boys U13 Brit-Am Allstars  and a goalkeeper coach for Brit Am. He played for 4 years at Watkins Mill High School as the Varsity goalkeeper and was  part of the 2011 state championship team. Albert was All State honorable mention, and also All Met honorable mention in 2014. Albert is currently attending Montgomery college and loves coaching kids and teaching them new techniques. Albert currently holds a USSF F-License working on his USSF E-License.

Coach Hayley M. :

Coach Hayley M.

Hayley is from Germantown, MD. She has been playing soccer for since 2001, and played for several area WAGS and MSI teams as a goalkeeper and midfielder. Hayley also played at her high school, Watkins Mill, where she was a four-year varsity starter and was captain her junior and senior years. She now plays on the University of Maryland club team. Hayley loves sharing her wisdom of soccer by coaching children and is a Brit-Am tots coach. Hayley is currently working towards her E-Coaching license to further her knowledge and coaching skills.

Coach Alan L. :

Coach Alan L.

Alan has coached for Brit-Am Soccer Academy since 2003, most recently as the director of coaching and  for Potomac Soccer from 2007-15, most recently as the director of youth programs. Alan holds the USSF A license and NSCAA Regional Goalkeeping Diploma and is currently the director of coaching for Locomotive FC in Hagerstown and on the Maryland State Youth Soccer Coaching Association Education Staff. Alan is a native of Blackpool, England.

Coach Bobby :

Coach Bobby

Bobby has loved playing soccer since he began playing on a rec team with all his friends coached by his dad. He played in the MSI Classic league as a defender, on a team trained by Steve Knapman. Bobby continued playing sports through high school, playing lacrosse for Gaithersburg HS.  Bobby has a passion for fitness and weightlifting and is studying computer science at UMBC. Bobby is coaching summer camps and tots soccer.
Coach Alex N. :

Coach Alex works with children of all ages through the Brit-Am Tots, After school and All Star Academy programs. Alex has loved playing soccer since age four. Locally, he played for Damascus High School and as a striker for the Baltimore Bays. Alex was also a member of the Mens U19 National team in Peru.  He is currently pursuing a degree in Physical Therapy. Alex holds a USSF-F License.

Coach Angela :

Coach Angela

Angie has coached with Brit-Am Soccer since 2010 working with players in the All Star Academy and in the Tots Program. She has organized youth soccer programs in the area for many years and coached at a local private high school. Angie played NCAA Division 3 soccer in college where she also worked as an assistant coach. She holds a USSF-D license.

Coach Anna :

Coach Anna

Anna is a senior at Quince Orchard High School where she plays on the varsity soccer team. She also plays on a WAGS Division I team. Anna has coached with Brit-Am Soccer at summer camps and in Brit-Am After School and Tots Programs for more than two years.  She is passionate about soccer and sharing her experience and love of the game with children.

Coach Carli :

Coach Carli

Carli is from Bethesda, MD, and is currently a freshman at The University of Vermont studying Business Administration. She plays club soccer at UVM and made it to the national tournament in Foley, Alabama this year. Carli has been coaching soccer for Brit-Am for 3 years. She currently holds a USSF F License and is scheduled to get her E license in 2017.

Coach Chris :

Coach Chris

Chris has coached teams, summer camps and Tots classes for Brit-Am. Chris was a member of the Division III Guilford Men’s soccer team in Greensboro, North Carolina from 1998-2002. He graduated with a degree in Physical Education and a minor in Sports Management. He later went on to gain his M.Ed. in Secondary Education. Chris was a girls’ varsity High School soccer coach in Malden, Massachusetts for seven years before relocating to the D.C. area as a PE teacher. Chris possesses his FA level 1 license from the U.K., Massachusetts Youth Soccer licenses G & F and USSF E License. He is currently the boys soccer coach at the Norwood School in Potomac, Maryland. Chris coaches the Brit-Am All Stars Freedom and Brit-Am All Stars Pride in the MSI Classic League.

Coach Edwin :

Coach Edwin

Edwin has been playing soccer since the age of 6 in area leagues including MSI classic and NCSL travel teams and for Northwood High School. Edwin went on to join Frederick Community College as a Goalkeeper. He holds a USSF-F license and is working on getting his E license. Edwin is studying criminal justice in college and hopes to continue a career sharing his love of the game while coaching children.

Coach Jodie :

Coach Jodie

Jodie started playing rec and travel soccer when she was 5, she played at Wootton High School as well as all four years in college, at Frostburg State University.  Jodie started coaching soccer during the summer of 2000 at various camps. From 2006-2008 she was the assistant coach at Frostburg State University for the girls soccer team. From 2008-2014 Jodie coached U11/U12 girls travel girls for DC Stoddert. Jodie also started an after school soccer program at the preschool she was teaching at for kids age 3 and 4.  Jodie currently holds a C license.

Coach Josh :

Coach Josh

Josh holds his USSF A coaching license and has been involved in coaching locally for over 12 years. Josh has over 24 years playing experience. He was raised in MD and played for Sherwood High School then attended Virginia Tech to play soccer. His career was cut short due to injuries, Josh graduated from Virginia Tech in 2004 and has been working his way up the coaching ladder since. He currently coaches for McLean Soccer Club with their U16 Girls and Boys teams and has had previous NCAA Division 1 experience at both American University and University of Maryland.

Coach Lucas :

Coach Lucas

Lucas is from Buenos Aires, Argentina and has been playing for over 15 years. Lucas played for Shepherd University 3 years and made the 2010-2011 All-Conference Team as a senior. He currently holds the USSF National Youth “E” License and has coached in the Montgomery County area for 4 years. He has been with Brit-Am for three years.

Coach Marcello :

Coach Marcello

Marcello graduated and played for Magruder High School and has played soccer all of his life. He is coaching within our tots program and he is the assistant Coach for the Brit-Am Allstars U11 Boys team. Currently Marcello is working to receive his E-License.

Coach Paola :

Coach Paola

Paola has been coaching since 2011. She coached for Damascus Soccer Academy and Gaithersburg Soccer School in addition to her current work with Brit-Am Goalkeeper School and the Brit-Am tots and afterschool programs. She currently holds a USSF D-License.  Paola is also studying to earn her degree in General Biology and the English Language at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Coach Patience :

Coach Patience

Patience,was born in Nigeria and has over 20 years of experience playing soccer. She played from 1998 - 2000 for Nigeria's Women's National team and played in the FIFA 1999 Women's World Cup and the 2000 Sydney, Olympics. Patience also played professionally in Germany and played from 2000 - 2004 at Bethel University in Tennessee where she graduated with a degree in Biology. She was named Defensive player of the year from 2001 - 2002 and was named All America by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and Adidas. Patience was the assistant coach at Bethel University for a year and coached a U9 girl's team in Washington DC in 2012. She is currently in the process of obtaining her USSF E-License.

Coach Peter T. :

Coach Peter T.

Coach Peter has a passion for soccer and is excited to be working with Brit-Am as a tots, skills and goalkeeper coach.. He played locally for Wilson High School and for club teams with MSC and VA TAP Premier as well as Maryland ODP. Peter was the starting goalkeeper for Guilford College in Greensboro, NC and continued as an assistant coach for the Guilford men’s team since 2015. While in Greensboro Coach Peter was the director of coaching for the Greensboro United Soccer Association, coaching children of all ages. Locally, Peter has directed camps for Sidwell Friends and coached Yorktown High School Boy’s Soccer and is currently a program director for an extended care and camp provider. Peter holds a USSF ‘D’ License.

Coach Phil T. :

Coach Phil T.

Coach Phil T. is fully engulfed in the DC and Maryland soccer scene. In his youth, he played for local club teams in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, one of which was coached by Brit-Am president, Steve Knapman. Phil was a member of the DeMatha Catholic High School (Hyattsville, MD) soccer team which was ranked #3 in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Phil continued his playing career for Mount St. Mary’s University (Emmitsburg, MD) where he was named to the Northeast Conference Honor Roll and awarded Teammate of the Year in his senior season. He is a lifetime footballer and now plays with amateur club teams that compete in state and national cups that prelude to the US Open Cup.

Phil is the current head varsity coach of School Without Walls boys’ high school soccer team (Northwest, DC). He also assists with DC United and their winter camp series. Phil has experience coaching all ages from 3-17 boys and girls. He is dedicated to providing an enjoyable platform where youth players can grow and develop the physical, technical, tactical, and mental parts of their game.

Phil holds his USSF D coaching license and NSCAA Level I Goalkeeping Diploma. He is CPR, AED, and First Aid certified.

Coach Rob :

Coach Rob

Rob comes from Western New York and has been with Brit-Am since 2012. His coaching experience stems from 2006 to the present. During his time at Jamestown Community College, Rob was a two year starter for the college’s Men’s Soccer team. In 2010, Rob graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from SUNY Fredonia. He holds a USSF D License and has coached players from ages three to eighteen. Rob currently coaches U11 boys and U13 boys Brit-Am All-Star Academy Teams. Rob’s coaching style is to strive to provide each and every one of his athletes with thorough knowledge of the sport as well as provide them with a positive and enjoyable playing environment.

Coach Sairaj has been coaching children in youth soccer locally for several years in Montgomery County. He has been playing soccer since age 7 and played locally for Rockville High School and the Olney Soccer Club.

David grew up in Montgomery County and has been playing in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area for 14 years. David learned how to be a goalkeeper from former Irish International and Brit-Am GK coach, Alan Kelly. He has experience playing for Potomac and DC United Academy teams and will be attending Stony Brook University to continue his soccer career. David has also been coaching with Brit-Am for 2 years.

Coach Miran “Mick” :

Coach Miran “Mick”

Miran “Mick” is an international soccer coach from Croatia. Mick holds NSCAA Goalkeeping Level I, Level II Diploma and USSF D license . He started playing club soccer at age 9 and later played for his high school team. Moving forward from youth selection to adult selection Mick played in several clubs and competed on regional and national level. In 2003 Mick received soccer scholarship from Lindenwood University. He played for two years and later assisted varsity Coach Carl Hutter as the goalkeeper coach. In addition, he helped Coach Hutter in recruiting efforts. Mick has completed his MBA in 2010.

Coach Paola :

Paola has been coaching since 2011.
